Role Description
Role Title: Community Leader
Role Overview: Southside Community Church Community Leaders play a vital role in fostering spiritual growth, building strong relationships, and creating a sense of belonging within our church community. As a Community Leader, you will lead and facilitate small group discussions using the "Practicing the Way Curriculum". Practicing the ways of Jesus in smaller communities that are on mission together. Culture is built by rhythms and practices, which are critical components of Southside Communities.
As a leader, you will personally participate in the practices and encourage and mentor others through the curriculum. Practicing the Way will reshape our lives as followers of Jesus. Becoming an apprentice of Jesus requires us to work to be with Jesus actively, become like Jesus, and carry out His Kingdom vision for the world.
You will also guide your group, helping them connect with one another and deepen their faith journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate Small Group Meetings:
- Facilitate regular group meetings, following the "Practicing the Way Curriculum."
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all group members.
- Initiate and guide discussions, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to participate.
- Spiritual Mentorship:
- Encourage and support group members in their spiritual growth by applying the practices.
- Provide guidance and insights based on the curriculum and your own experiences.
- Pray with and for group members, fostering a culture of prayer.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding personal matters shared within the group.
- Relationship Building:
- Foster a sense of community and belonging within the group.
- Encourage open and authentic communication among group members.
- Facilitate opportunities for members to connect outside of group meetings.
- Utilize your ability to discern group dynamics and individual needs to enhance relationships.
- Administration and Communication:
- Keep track of attendance, prayer requests, and group progress.
- Communicate effectively with church leadership and members about group activities and updates.
- Assist in promoting and recruiting new members for the group.
- Utilize other group member gifts by delegating tasks such as communication, keeping track of prayer requests, meal preparation, social activity planning etc.
- Personal Growth:
- Continuously engage in your own spiritual growth and development.
- Attend training sessions and meetings to stay informed and equipped for your role.
Qualifications:
- A committed and active member of Southside Community Church.
- A mature and growing faith in Jesus Christ.
- Confidentiality
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate meaningful discussions and create a safe space for group members.
- Organizational skills for tracking group progress and attendance.
- A willingness to be mentored and receive guidance from church leadership.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and maintaining trust within the group.
- Comfortable with delegation
Reporting Structure: This role directly reports to the Southside Community Directors, Rob and Hilda Wood. You will work closely with them to align your small group activities with the overall vision and mission of the church community.
Time Commitment: The time commitment for this role includes leading weekly small group meetings, preparing time for each meeting, and attending leadership meetings and training sessions. You can expect to dedicate 4-6 hours per week to fulfill your responsibilities.
